New Sewer Connection Pre works
Project Overview
Civils & Environmental were appointed to undertake a comprehensive programme of drainage investigations, utility surveys and traffic management planning a in advance of a proposed drainage remediation scheme.
The project was commissioned following the identification of a foul drainage connection discharging into the surface water network. Before any remedial construction works could proceed, a detailed understanding of the existing drainage infrastructure, underground services and site constraints was required.
Our role was to provide the technical information, surveys and logistical planning necessary to enable the safe and efficient delivery of the future drainage diversion works.
Project Objectives
The primary objectives were to:
Investigate the existing drainage network
Identify connection points and flow routes
Confirm the location of underground utilities
Assess access requirements for future construction works
Develop traffic management proposals
Minimise disruption to surrounding road users and pedestrians
Provide accurate site information to support project planning and approvals
Scope of Services
Civils & Environmental delivered a range of pre-construction services, including:
Drainage Investigations
Existing drainage network assessments
Connection and outfall identification
Drainage tracing and verification
Condition investigations
Infrastructure mapping
Utility Surveys
Underground service identification
Utility record reviews
Service avoidance assessments
Site constraint analysis
Risk identification and mitigation planning
Site Assessments

Constructability assessments
Environmental considerations
Operational impact assessments
Stakeholder coordination
Traffic Management Planning
Highway impact assessments
Traffic management design and planning
Pedestrian management considerations
Safe working zone identification
Vehicle access and logistics planning
Key Challenges
Urban Environment
The site was located within a busy urban setting where future works would have the potential to affect both pedestrian and vehicle movements.
Careful assessment was required to ensure any future construction activities could be undertaken safely while maintaining access for residents, businesses and road users.
Existing Underground Infrastructure
The presence of multiple buried services and existing drainage assets required detailed investigation and verification before any construction methodology could be developed.
Regulatory & Stakeholder Requirements
The project required coordination with utility providers, drainage authorities and local stakeholders to ensure all future works could be planned in accordance with relevant requirements and approvals.
Solutions Delivered
Civils & Environmental provided a comprehensive pre-construction package that enabled the client to progress the drainage remediation scheme with confidence.
The information gathered during the investigation phase provided:
A clear understanding of the existing drainage arrangement
Identification of critical underground services
Defined access and working constraints
Traffic management strategies for future works
Reduced project risk before construction commencement
Outcome
Through detailed surveying, drainage investigations and traffic management planning, Civils & Environmental delivered the information required to support the successful design and delivery of the proposed drainage remediation works.
The project demonstrates our ability to provide specialist pre-construction support services, helping clients reduce risk, improve planning accuracy and ensure infrastructure projects are delivered safely and efficiently.
