Car Park Resurfacing
Car Park Reconstruction & Resurfacing
Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire
Project Overview
Civils & Environmental were appointed to undertake extensive car park refurbishment and surfacing works at the facility in Stoke-on-Trent.
The project was developed to improve the condition, durability and appearance of the existing parking and circulation areas, addressing sections of deteriorated surfacing while creating a long-term solution capable of withstanding ongoing commercial vehicle traffic.
Working within an operational business environment, the project required careful planning to minimise disruption whilst delivering a high-quality finished surface throughout the site.
Scope of Works
The project included:
Site preparation and surface cleaning
Localised excavation and reconstruction works
Kerb installation and repairs
Weed removal and vegetation management
MOT Type 1 sub-base construction
Binder course installation
Surface course resurfacing
Edge detailing and tie-in works
Final reinstatement and finishing works
Existing Site Challenges
The existing car park had experienced deterioration in several areas due to age, traffic loading and surface wear.
Investigations identified areas requiring both structural reconstruction and resurfacing works to restore long-term performance and improve the overall condition of the site.
Additional challenges included:
Maintaining safe access throughout the works
Managing varying pavement conditions across the site
Integrating new surfacing with existing infrastructure
Delivering a durable finish suitable for commercial use

Reconstruction Works
Where the existing pavement structure had deteriorated beyond simple resurfacing, Civils & Environmental carried out full-depth reconstruction works.
These works included:
Excavation of existing surfacing to depths of approximately 380mm
Installation of weed barrier systems
Construction of new MOT Type 1 foundations
Timber edging installation where required
New kerb installations complete with concrete bedding and backing
The reconstructed areas provided a robust pavement foundation capable of supporting future traffic loading while improving overall site longevity.
Surfacing Works
Following completion of the preparation and reconstruction phases, the site received a comprehensive resurfacing programme.
Works included:
Thorough mechanical cleaning of all surfaces
Application of K1-40 tack coat
Installation of binder course asphalt
Laying of AC10 surface course
Perimeter key detailing and tie-ins
Joint sealing and finishing works
Approximately 470m² of surfacing was incorporated within the refurbishment programme, creating a consistent and durable finished surface throughout the operational areas.
Solutions Delivered
Civils & Environmental successfully delivered:
Full car park refurbishment
Localised pavement reconstruction
Kerb and edging installations
Asphalt resurfacing works
Surface preparation and cleaning
Binder and wearing course installation
Site reinstatement and finishing works

Outcome
The completed works significantly improved the condition, safety and appearance of the facility's external areas.
By combining structural pavement reconstruction with high-quality asphalt surfacing, the project delivered a long-term asset improvement that will reduce future maintenance requirements while providing a professional and durable finish for staff, visitors and operational vehicles.
The scheme demonstrates Civils & Environmental's ability to deliver commercial surfacing and infrastructure projects efficiently while maintaining operations within live business environments.
